Igor Mazepa about his investments in Ukrainian assets

Igor Mazepa, Concorde Capital CEO, tells about his investments in Ukrainian assets

Currently I am investing in private medicine, particularly the Dobrobut network of medical clinics; cement production, having brought the assets of HeidelbergCement this summer; real estate, particularly the Good Life cottage residence; and the recreation sector, currently developing the Shelest suburban hotel-restaurant complex. There are also projects in the e-commerce and IT sectors – says Igor Mazepa. Yet I expect the maximum return from my investment in cement. I think it will pay off in about a year – adds Igor Mazepa.

My view of investing has dramatically changed in the last three months. If just a few months ago foreign investors were fleeing Ukraine, selling their assets at stress levels, then now at Concorde Capital we are observing renewed interest in Ukraine – states Igor Mazepa. By our estimates, about USD 6 bln have entered the country in recent months.

The reason is the new political course and rates at which reforms are being implemented in legislation. The market is reacting positively to them. For example, just a half year ago I could not have imagined that in the foreseeable future Ukrainian companies will be able to perform an IPO. But now there are expectations that they can occur next year.

My expectations are related to necessary reforms finally being conducted, including in the judicial, health care and pension sectors – comments Igor Mazepa. That finally the government will change its lumpen-style approach to people and will allow them to trade freely their property. I am referring to the land market.  That finally a large privatization will be conducted, which will put an end to the corruption of officials at state enterprises, and introduces effective owners to them, as well as the best management practices in the world.
